The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has issued a serious warning to immigrants who hold green cards and visas. They reminded everyone that these immigration statuses are not permanent rights but conditional privileges. This statement comes following the introduction of a new policy called “Catch-And-Revoke.”
Under the new rule, which was announced by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, any non-citizen—including green card and visa holders—can lose their immigration status if they are found to be violating U.S. laws. This is known as a “one-strike” rule. Rubio stated, “Whenever the government catches non-U.S. citizens breaking our laws, we will take action to revoke their status.”
This toughened policy is a response to rising concerns about national security, especially after a recent attack by Hamas on Israel. Rubio criticized the Biden administration for not acting strongly enough against individuals seen as a threat, particularly those who have been part of protests on college campuses.
One major change with the “Catch-And-Revoke” policy is the lack of due process. Previously, immigrants had the ability to challenge revocations or fix minor violations. With this new approach, those rights may disappear, making it easier for the government to deport individuals without giving them a chance to appeal.
USCIS stressed the importance of following U.S. laws. They stated, “Receiving a visa or green card is a privilege. If you support or promote violence, terrorism, or encourage others to do so, you lose the right to remain in the U.S.”
This shift in policy has raised concern among immigrants and advocates who fear that such strict rules could lead to unfair treatment and harsher consequences for people who may be involved in political activities or protests.
As this new policy takes effect, many are watching closely to see how it will impact immigrant communities across the country.
