Union Minister Calls for Collaboration at Startup Conclave in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, April 22, 2025 — The Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, emphasized the importance of collaboration among scientific research institutions during the launch of a two-day Startup Conclave held at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) campus. The event was organized jointly by three key CSIR institutes: IICT, the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), and the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI).

Addressing a gathering of scientists and entrepreneurs, Singh criticized the tendency of research labs to work in isolation. He urged them to open up their work to various stakeholders, including farmers, entrepreneurs, and the private sector. “We can’t achieve global benchmarks working behind closed doors. Interaction with the public and industry is essential,” he stated.

The Minister highlighted the government’s increased investment in science, noting the science budget has risen significantly from ₹5,615 crore to ₹13,416 crore over the past eleven years. He called on scientists to engage more with startups to develop early industry connections that could benefit both research and commercial ventures.

Singh noted his surprise at how rarely the three CSIR institutes collaborate, despite the overlapping nature of their research. He urged for a team-oriented approach to streamline resources and enhance productivity.

During the event, startups like Greenworks Bio, Startoon Labs, and Skyroot Aerospace showcased their projects, signaling the innovative spirit within the community. The second day of the conclave will feature prominent guests, including Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy.

Overall, the Startup Conclave aimed to foster collaboration and innovation in the scientific and entrepreneurial sectors, paving the way for a vibrant startup ecosystem in India.
