Tensions Rise as India Strikes Pakistan in Response to Terror Attack

U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following India’s military strikes against targets within Pakistan. In a statement made during a White House interaction, Trump expressed hope that the situation “ends very quickly.”

The Indian embassy in Washington confirmed that National Security Adviser Ajit Doval briefed U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio—who also holds the National Security Adviser position—on India’s military actions. Trump remarked, “It’s a shame,” referring to the longstanding conflict between the two nations.

According to the Indian embassy, the strikes were “focused and precise,” aimed solely at known terrorist camps without impacting civilian or military sites. The embassy provided affirmations of “credible leads, technical inputs, and testimonies of survivors,” indicating the clear involvement of Pakistan-based terrorists in the recent Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 individuals, including one Nepali citizen.

In retaliation for this attack, the Indian Armed Forces launched “Operation Sindoor,” targeting nine locations deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, where attacks against India have been planned. An army spokesperson stated, “Our actions have been focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature.” The official statement highlighted the restraint shown in selecting targets and executing the operation.

Pakistan’s military responded to the strikes, with Inter-Services Public Relations Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry denouncing the missile strikes as a “cowardly attack.” He confirmed the targets were in Kotli, Bahwalpur, and Muzaffarabad amidst rising tensions from the previous militant attack in Kashmir.

As the situation continues to unfold, both nations remain on high alert, with diplomatic channels strained and public sentiments running high.
