Operation Sindoor: India Strikes Back Against Terrorism

In a strong response to recent cross-border terror attacks, India has launched “Operation Sindoor.” The operation aims to target terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) following a deadly attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the loss of 26 civilian lives.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that the operation is ongoing and emphasized that India will retaliate against any further aggression from Pakistan. Reports indicate that Indian armed forces successfully destroyed nine terror bases, leading to the deaths of at least 100 terrorists. The operation is a direct answer to Pakistan’s recent violations of the ceasefire along the Line of Control, where heavy artillery has been fired into Indian territory.

On the night of May 7-8, 2025, Pakistan attempted to launch drones and missiles targeting multiple locations in Northern and Western India, including cities like Jammu and Pathankot. These attacks were intercepted by India’s advanced Integrated Counter Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) and air defense systems. The Indian military responded by targeting air defense radars in Pakistan, successfully neutralizing threats, including a significant air defense system in Lahore.

The situation remains tense. Pakistan has ramped up its artillery fire across the Line of Control, impacting areas in Jammu and Kashmir. Tragically, this has resulted in the loss of 16 innocent lives, including women and children, due to Pakistani shelling.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has made it clear that while India does not seek escalation, any military attack will be met with a “very firm response.” He highlighted that India’s actions are aimed at countering terrorism and protecting its sovereignty.

Political leaders across India have shown unity in support of Operation Sindoor. In a recent all-party meeting, leaders from various political parties expressed their backing for the operation and commended the armed forces for their efforts.

Internationally, many countries, including the UK and France, have expressed support for India’s right to defend itself against terrorism. The UK’s former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated no country should tolerate attacks from across its borders.

As Operation Sindoor continues, the situation remains under close watch as both nations navigate this critical moment. The Indian government is committed to securing its territory and ensuring the safety of its citizens. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
