India Launches Operation Sindoor Against Terror Infrastructure in Pakistan

In the early hours of May 7, 2025, the Indian Armed Forces conducted a significant military operation named “Operation Sindoor.” This operation targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, following a recent terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, including tourists.

According to government officials, the strikes were aimed at nine specific sites linked to various banned terrorist organizations, including Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The Indian Ministry of Defence emphasized that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted during the operation. Instead, the focus was on disrupting the planning and execution of cross-border terrorist activities.

The Indian government stated, “Focused strikes were carried out on terrorist infrastructure, targeting the roots of cross-border terror planning.” The operation was a response to growing concerns about terrorism emanating from Pakistan.

As a reaction to the strikes, the Pakistan Army engaged in heavy mortar shelling across the Line of Control (LoC), particularly in the Poonch and Rajouri districts. Reports indicated that several civilians were injured, and homes in forward villages were damaged due to incoming fire.

In light of the military action, India has suspended commercial flights in northern states, including Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar, for safety reasons. School districts close to the border also canceled classes and postponed examinations in response to the heightened tensions.

The situation has drawn international attention. The United Nations Security Council held closed-door discussions regarding the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, where calls for de-escalation were made. Meanwhile, several countries, including the United States and China, urged both nations to exercise restraint and seek peaceful resolutions.

In the aftermath of the operation, a spokesperson for the Pakistani military reported that the strikes resulted in civilian casualties, claiming that several people, including a child, were killed and many more injured.

Furthermore, Indian officials communicated with other nations, including the U.S., UK, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Russia, to explain India’s military actions, describing them as precise and responsible, aimed solely at terrorist infrastructures.

As tensions continue to escalate between India and Pakistan, leaders from both sides have voiced their positions. Indian officials have expressed a firm commitment to combating terrorism, while Pakistan has promised to respond to what they term as “aggression.”

The international community is now watching closely as diplomatic efforts for de-escalation and dialogue unfold in the wake of Operation Sindoor.
