He furthered his education with a Ph.D. from the CSIR Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR IICT), followed by postdoctoral research and a position as a Research Assistant Professor at Okayama University in Japan.
Dr. Bhaskar joined CSIR IIP in 2007 and has since held various leadership roles, including Division Head and Chairman of multiple institutional and national committees. His research interests primarily focus on applied chemistry, particularly the valorization of waste materials such as plastics, biomass, and lignin into sustainable fuels, chemicals, and advanced carbon materials.
Over his career, Dr. Bhaskar has spearheaded numerous technology development and demonstration projects, most notably a successful pilot-scale bio binder application for road construction on National Highway 6. With a prolific output, he has authored over 250 peer-reviewed scientific articles, contributed 45 book chapters, edited four books, and holds 17 patents. Recognized as one of the world’s top 2% scientists in the energy sector, according to a Stanford University study for 2022-2024, he has also mentored 25 Ph.D. scholars and led 49 projects funded by CSIR, international agencies, and industry.
The appointment of Dr. Bhaskar marks a new chapter for CSIR AMPRI, with a commitment to advancing sustainable materials research and translational technologies. Dr. Srinivasa Reddy, Director of CSIR IICT, along with the entire IICT community, has expressed their congratulations and support, anticipating that Dr. Bhaskar will enhance the institute’s reputation and recognition on a global scale.
