Apple has firmly denied allegations that it used YouTube data to train its AI models, including the upcoming Apple Intelligence feature.

The company has stated that its open-source Efficient Language Model (OpenELM) is purely a research tool and does not contribute to any of its consumer products.

Recent investigations revealed that several tech giants, including Apple, had potentially utilized subtitles from over 170,000 popular YouTube videos to enhance their AI models. However, Apple has maintained that its AI models are trained on licensed data and publicly accessible information gathered by its web crawler, AppleBot.

The tech giant has clarified that OpenELM was developed to advance large language model research within the open-source community and will not be updated further.

Apple Intelligence, a new set of generative AI features, is scheduled to be introduced with the iPhone 16 series. This advanced technology will be exclusively available on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad and Mac models equipped with M1 chips or later.

While other companies involved in the controversy have offered explanations, Apple has adopted a more assertive stance, completely dismissing any involvement in the misuse of YouTube data.

The revelation has sparked a broader conversation about the ethical implications of using publicly available data for AI training and the potential for copyright infringement.
